CTC to in-hand: common questions

What is in-hand salary?

In-hand salary is the money that lands in your bank account each month. People also call it take-home salary, net salary or salary in hand. It is your CTC minus the employer PF and gratuity that sit inside it, your own PF, professional tax and income tax (TDS), divided across twelve months.

How do I calculate in-hand salary from CTC?

Start from CTC and remove what never reaches you monthly: the employer PF contribution (12% of basic) and the gratuity provision (≈4.81% of basic), plus any variable bonus paid annually. From the gross that remains, subtract your own 12% PF, professional tax, and income tax. What is left, divided by 12, is your monthly in-hand. This calculator does all of it for your exact CTC.

What is the in-hand salary for 12 LPA in India?

With a standard structure (50% basic, PF and gratuity inside CTC), a ₹12,00,000 CTC gives roughly ₹85,000 per month in hand under the new regime for FY 2026-27. Income tax is zero because taxable income stays under the ₹12 lakh Section 87A rebate limit.

What is the monthly in-hand salary for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 LPA?

For FY 2026-27, with a standard structure (50% basic, PF and gratuity inside CTC) and the cheaper tax regime picked for each, the monthly in-hand is about ₹35,456 for 5 LPA, ₹71,121 for 10 LPA, ₹1,00,299 for 15 LPA, ₹1,29,330 for 20 LPA and ₹1,80,685 for 30 LPA. Every package has its own page with the full regime comparison, linked above.

Why is my in-hand salary less than CTC divided by 12?

Because CTC counts money you never receive monthly: the employer PF contribution and the gratuity provision, plus any variable pay that is paid once a year. On top of that, your own PF, professional tax and income tax come out of what is left. That is why a 12 LPA CTC is closer to ₹85,000 a month than ₹1,00,000.

How much of CTC is in-hand salary?

Usually 70–85%, and the share falls as CTC rises because income tax takes a larger slice. On a standard structure with PF on full basic, you keep about 85% at 12 LPA, just under 78% at 20 LPA, and about 72% at 30 LPA.
